MONO BOX SET - Numbered, Limited Edition Mono 180g 9LP Box Set!
Bob Dylan’s first eight groundbreaking albums are returning to the marketplace for the first time ever in a limited edition box set of newly mastered mono versions on fully analogue 180-gram vinyl.
"The eight reissues - from his 1962 eponymous debut through 1967's John Wesley Harding - feature the original monarual mixes. Gone is the weird stereo separation that split voice, guitar, and harmonica into an unnaturally wide soundstage. Restored is the punchy bass that had been reduced in the original stereo mixes to meet limitations of early- to mid-60s stereo cartridge technology." - Greg Cahill, The Absolute Sound, Janaury 2011, Issue 209
"Dylan spent a lot of time supervising the original mono mixes, and these reissues accurately reflect his intentions." - Greg Cahill, The Absolute Sound, Janaury 2011, Issue 209
The Original Mono Recordings are comprised of these albums painstakingly reproduced from their first generation monaural mixes as the artist intended them to be heard: One channel of powerful sound, both direct and immediate. While stereo recordings had been available as early as the mid-1950s, mono was still the predominant – and often preferred – mode of recording and mixing by the top artists of the 1960s. As a result, artists like The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and Bob Dylan devoted their attention to the mono mixes, leaving the stereo mixing process to studio engineers.
The Original Mono Recordings are accompanied by a deluxe booklet, featuring vintage photographs of Bob Dylan and an expansive essay from renowned author and critic – and longtime Dylan aficionado – Greil Marcus. Each disc in the set comes in its own individual jacket which faithfully replicates the original album artwork, complete with labels and stickers that were found on the original 1960s releases.

Bob Dylan’s earliest recording from the British Masters of BOB DYLAN (self-titled) plus ANOTHER SIDE OF BOB DYLAN. THE TIMES THEY ARE A CHANGING is from the American Mono Masters. These three recordings established Dylan as the world’s #1 folk singer and his fans had no idea he was now going to change music forever with his next releases.
This transformation is set up on his electric performance at Bob Dylan’s famous ROYAL ALBERT HALL CONCERT.. This concert tour was probably the most controversial ever of an artist transforming music before the very eyes of the audience. During this tour, Dylan has two sections within his performance. The first is acoustical (to which one LP is dedicated). The second changes music forever when he goes electric. In 1966, I saw this concert in the U.S. (the opening act was Simon & Garfunkel) and as much as I liked Bob Dylan’s acoustic sound, when he went electric, it blew me away. I immediately went out and purchased his new LP BRINGING IT ALL BACK HOME and to this day, it is still my favorite Dylan LP
That year, many of Bob Dylan’s folk following looked at him as a traitor for going electric with the likes of Al Kooper, Mike Bloomfield, Barry Goldberg in the studio and on the road his backup artists was the group known later as simply THE BAND.
The tracks for the Electric LP are TELL ME, MOMMA – I DON’T BELIEVE YOU – BABY, LET ME FOLLOW YOU DOWN – JUST LIKE TOM THUMB’S BLUES – LEOPARD-SKIN PILL-BOX HAT – ONE TOO MANY MORNINGS – BALLAD OF A THIN MAN – LIKE A ROLLING STONE.
