Item Description

Christ Gabriel Jazz Missionary Group
s/t LP
1974 ?
Musicmaster Records
A truly unique gem of the private 70s jazz canon, this beyond-rare LP offers a lot. A blend of styles. Occasional vocals, both sung and spoken.
Airy, single-microphone ? recording of good quality. Led by percussionist/vocalist Freddie Gabriel. David Ware first ever recording? on tenor sax. Milton Marsh known for his Strata-East LP, Monism on alto sax. Cedric Lawson would go on to play with Miles on organ. Sam Alongi on trumpet. John McReveley on trombone.
The record grades as VG . As you can see in the photos, it shines beautifully. I crack open brand new records and they don t shine like this. There are a few faint scratches on side 2, causing some scant tics, one slightly more pronounced towards the end of the side which causes a repeating tic. Not a loud pop. I listened straight through and was not distracted one bit. The disc is perfectly flat. Labels are clean and crisp, one faint spindle trail on each. Playback has some minor surface noise in quiet passages. I found this record recently and have NOT cleaned it. I expect a proper cleaning will diminish what little noise there is considerably. I ll leave that to you, and whatever machine/method you see fit for a record of this caliber. But be assured the disc sounds nice as-is.
The cover is around VG/VG all things considered. The front paste-on is glossy and has a nice sheen. There is a tear from a price sticker on upper right. The bottom left corner is split and dinged. See photos. The split is about 2 on the bottom seam and 1 on the spine. Very minor dings/wear to the corners on the open side. The top seam is tight, as is the spine above the bottom corner. It is signed on the back by Freddie Gabriel and dated 1974, first album.
I will ship anywhere, but please contact me if you are serious about buying. The record will need to ship fully insured via priority, at the buyer s expense. Again, international buyers, please note you will need to pay for an insured shipment for full value. We can also arrange in-person pickup in NYC, USA.
Thanks, and happy new year.
