From the estate of a former Apple employee, this genuine 1-sided 12" stereo acetate of side 2 of The Beatles 1969 LP 'Yellow Submarine' is thought to be the only known example in existence.
The disc features the six tracks of George Martin's exquisite score, as they were released on side two of the Apple LP: PCS 7070
The playing side of the metal, lacquer-covered disc bears an 'EMIDISC' label with 'STEREO - THE GEORGE MARTIN ORCHESTRA - THE YELLOW SUBMARINE' handwritten in black ballpoint pen, along with a set of initials.
The non-playing side of the acetate is completely blank.
This disc is housed in a contemporary poly-lined inner-sleeve with 'George Martin Orch (Stereo)' written in the upper right corner.
Label: NEAR MINT
Visual: VERY GOOD +
The first thing to note is that this discs has correct 'smell' given off by all genuine acetates of this period. The disc has been carefully and correctly stored and is free from any mold or blooming to the delicate surfaces. The lacquer is glossy and undulled and free from any cracking or crazing, and there are no chips or missing pieces. The only signs of wear are a handful of light fingernail scuffs on the playing surface together with a few light marks from sleeve storage, but nothing I would call a scratch . The disc lies 100% flat on the turntable when playing and would be impossible to replace.
Sound Quality: EXCELLENT
Played just once or twice for test purposes, this incredible sounding disc was cut straight from the mastertape and sounds incredibly clear and full, with a clarity and presence missing from any other version of this beautiful score. There is no trace of any groove/playwear distortion, just a little low-level background in the quieter passages, along with the occasional light click. There are no jumps, repeats or any major audible distractions.
