Pink Floyd - The First XI. Rare 1979 EMI/HARVEST, UK vinyl LP box set comprising issues of the first 11 Pink Floyd albums. A very rare 11 LP set, only 1000+ released, containing the first 11 Pink Floyd albums, housed in a heavy duty textured box with slide-out compartment, released by Harvest/EMI. BONUS: Set contains a first edition release of The Wall and the Syd Barrett solo album The Madcap Laughs, featuring Humble Pie drummer Jerry Shirley.
SLEEVE: EX+ There are a few dings, and wear marks on the edges, but overall very very nice. Saucerful Of Secrets, Atom Heart Mother and Meddle each have a ¼” blemish at top of sleeve where weight of record created a slight abrasion over the last 36 years. Piper At The Gates Of Dawn has slight ½” bend/tear in sleeve in one corner. All other sleeves are mint. All original DSOTM posters, stickers and WYWH postcard included.
VINYL: NM+ None of these albums have ever been played. I received this box set as part of a trade in 1979. A friend of a friend worked at the Tower Records home warehouse in Sacramento, CA. His car had broken down and he didn’t have the money to get anything reasonable. I had two cars at the time and didn’t really need the second one. So we struck a deal. He got the car and I would get 200 albums of my choice from the warehouse. Either their loss prevention program was pretty lax, or since the guys in the warehouse made so little money, it wasn’t a big deal. Of course they did not have every record I listed, so he filled in the blanks with some of his own choices (The Floyd Box Set, The Wall and The Madcap Laughs were three of these). I already owned all of the Pink Floyd discography individually so I never wanted to play these. Okay, I did play the Syd Barrett solo album once, but it was too sad and I never played it again.
Box: VG There are some dings, and wear marks on the edges, but overall nice.
Why I’m selling after all these years…
My daughter is graduating from college this spring, and the proceeds from this sale will be her graduation present. So she can say she got a grad gift from the Floyd.
