SUBJECT TO RESALE...
text Well haven t I got a rather special listing for the jazz world vinyl collectors today.
NOTE: This is from the personal collection of a English 1960s Jazz musician and has only had one previous owner, it was given to him pre-general release.
It is a GENUINE FACTORY SAMPLE original issue MONO copy.
Wow Condition Sleeve: EX see below notes Condition Vinyl: VG see below notes Sleeve is very very nice indeed with nothing obvious to upset in any way, very obviously cared for and stored well in all these years.
The images are clear and bright, all text is clear and legible.
The lamination is down and more or less totally intact, just a tiny bit on the top right where 3 lines look like they may lift one day but not yet.
Spine and all seams are intact, crisp, sharp and without wear.
The spine text is clear and without any issue.
There are no stickers or residue of or any marks apart from the tinest dot /speck mark just above the E of SHADES in the title on the front.
The flipbacks are down an intact and have taken on a little bit of dirt but nothing bad in any way, the white on the rear has evenly naturally discoloured from the original white but this is to be expected.
A small amount of wear to the opening line at the bottom, so not all 100 perfect but a truly superb example, as good as you would ever hope to find.
The Photos show all the relevant detail.
The labels are clean and without any issue, the Factory Sample sticker covers the main Columbia wording on the Side 2 label.
There is very minimal evidence of spindle placing marks, so I presume seldom played or at least placed carefully on the platter.
Visually the vinyl retains it s gloss and has no marks that would think to cause any playback issues.
On closer inspection there are just a few what I would expect to be small superficial lines and tiny superficial scartches and most notably what looks like a hairline superficial scratch on Side One in the run out groove that goes partially into the last track on that side.
I shall play grade the LP in detail: I will play with full treble to highlight any possible reductions in sound quality down from Mint and clean playing, there will be no surprises once the winner opens his package from this sale.
Please note this LP has not yet been professionally cleaned and was given to me in this condition, a deep professional clean may well enhance the audio further.
Starting to play Side 1 just now: lovely.
There is some very low level background crackle and the odd light tick, as I have said I think a clean on a professional cleaning system could possibly eradicate this, hope so.
The first two tracks and the last track play very nicely, the 3rd track as it is very sparse the backround noises are obviously, slightly more prominent.
For me personally this would not be an issue, but we are talking about an LP of very high rarity and sought by some very particular mint collectors, I wouldn t describe this track pre-clean as super clean.
This is by no means a one track LP, but personally I have always gone back to play Blue Mosque first, I must sa that this plays very very nicely on this LP, the aforementioned noise is only really noticeable as the track fades, the last few seconds.
On to Side 2.
First track starts off and continues with a few ticks and pops, no constant noise but it does have some crunches, real shame, I can t see anything in the grooves that should cause this and any of the small superficial lines mentioned in the visual grading are not in that part, again I can only hope the winners choice of a clean would help.
Track two is bright and has audio clarity, but on a lesser level it also has some of the mentioned ticks.
Track 3 and the LP title track, a ballad starts off very nicely but also has the afformentioned occasional tick and yes I must say slightly louder than one would have hoped for for a sparse and tender track, but still a joy and by no means constant but not ideal at all.
The last track plays better than the others on side 2, musically is a much more fuller sound but I don t think it hides any ticks, it plays much better.
To summarise, the vinyl looks a beauty, lovely and glossy, but you do get those ticks and crunches at times.
A decent and to my ears largely a most acceptable playing copy.
If you have any particular questions, please message and ask, I am not set up to record audio as yet but in the old days I used to get records played down the phone before I bought, I am happy to offer this service on this LP if needed - again just message me to ask.
I won t attempt to review this music or history of this LP, this vinyl issue is for the high end Jazz collectors and connoisseurs and they know what they are buying and how good and indeed obscure this LP is.
I would have loved to have kept it for myself, but I am rather fortunate to have had another copy for years without a sleeve and not in very good condition at all, but my LP plays Blue Mosque very acceptably for me.
But what a piece of music Indeed quite a privelege, albeit temporary to have two copies in the same room Again - All photos are from the actual LP for sale.
Please note the photos have specs of dust on the vinyl, these have now been gently dry wiped off with a very soft cloth, I just took the LP from the inner to take some very quick photos whilst I had some bright exterior light.
