Michael Jackson THRILLER PICTURE DISC TEST PRESSINGPERHAPS THE RAREST MICHAEL JACKSON ITEM ON EBAYA CHANCE TO OWN A PIECE OF MUSIC HISTORY Check out pictures below BACKGROUND INFO/PROVENANCE: I received this from a guy who himself received this from his Epic Records record rep in Indianapolis, Indiana when he lived and worked there back in the 1980s.
The guy I received this from managed one of the largest stores for a chain in the mid west called Camelot Music, and worked for them from 1979-1983.
He explained that those were the days of in store appearances by the major acts.
His rep was the co-ordinator for the in store appearances for that label at the time.
Then went on to work for a smaller independent distributor in California, American Music Marketing from 1983-85.
Regarding the disc itself here is a descrption of the vinyl.
The side with the picture of Michael has no music on it at all while the white side has music but NOT by Michael Jackson.
It is music from some other musician.
There is a number engraved on the white side barely visible .
It s MD 0003 - A.
This test pressing has been fully appraised by the world renowned Scott Neuman.
A certificate of appraisal signed by Scott Neuman will accompany the sale.
Scott Neuman states that this is an in-house mock up art record.
That means that the art department at the record company creating a working model picture disc with Michael s photo on the front, the blank insert on the back and a recording on the back of a artist other then Michael.
As a mock up art record, this would normally be created as a one off example for the art director and upper management of the record company to make decisions as to releasing a final version of the Picture Disc.
This particular image was used to create commercial copies BUT the placement of the image and the size of the image are different from the final commercial product.
