JOHNS CHILDREN
"come and play with me in the garden"
"sara, crazy child"
PREVIEW RECORD
This is the most amazing find! An incredibly scarce Marc Bolan preview record with the SNB (Simon Napier Bell) matrix.
Made in July 1967. Research indicates there are 2 types of test pressing for the "Come And Play With Me in the Garden" white label. One features a typed label and the other is hand written.
Well, this sort of proves that as one side is type-written and the other hand-written! It should be noted that the labels were written or printed and stuck on before the record was pressed and the push-out centre cut. This shows that this is a genuine pressing.
The "Growing Up With John's Children" book says "Simon Napier-Bell formed his own label and this record was probably the first fruit of the enterprise".
The fact that it has the matrix numbers of SNB 001A and SNB 001B certainly indicates this was the very first pressing on his label. It would not have been released commercially as at this time the band were still under contract to Track records.
The flip side has a slightly extended take of "Sara Crazy Child" making this different from the released Track records issue.
This then is a 100% genuine unreleased Marc Bolan single and, not only is it incredibly rare, due to it being the debut from Simon Napier Bell it is also a piece of history.
The condition is 'near mint' and shows hardly any sign of being played more than a couple of times.
Bolan has never been more collectable and a top drawer rarity like this will always be an investment.
