APPLE RECORDS

"our first four"

FOUR PROMOTIONAL DISCS IN PLASTIC PRESENTATION BOX

This legendary Beatles APPLE LABEL record company promotional pack of four Apple singles was issued to comemorate the launch of the label in 1968.  Each of the seven inch singles comes in its own coloured folder.

The four records are, "Hey Jude" by the Beatles, "Those were the days", Mary Hopkin, "Sour Milk Sea", Jackie Lomax and "Thingumybob" by "The Black Dyke Mills Band" being the first four Apple issues, hence the title!

Some were presented to the press and promotional companies and these came in a thin cardboard box.

However, just a few were housed in a plastic case and were intended to be sent to The Royal Family, the Prime Minister, Harold Wilson and various high-up dignitaries and it is one of these incredibly scarce packaged ones we have here on offer!

My research suggests that the indentation on the front of the box was for an invitation but no-one has ever seen one of these.  The one we have on sale here has a detached paper that fits exactly into the space bearing the message "Our First Four" in graduated colour.  I am pretty certain that this is not original although it looks like it and enhances the display value.

The box is almost 100% intact with only a tiny piece the size of a match-head missing from the lower left corner of the lid edge.

Each of the records are correct having the overprint  "sold in the UK subject to resale price conditions, see price lists" on the record centres. these show them to be very first issues.

"Hey Jude" has a very small tear about 12mm on the right hand edge of the green cover and the Jackie Lomax has a similar one but shorter and lower down.  These are both very minor.  There is some very light sign of wear on the coloured covers but this in no way detracts from the huge appeal of this incredibly rare and valuable set.

In all my years of record dealing I have never seen another copy in the plastic folder.

Please feel free to ask me any queries and I will post these here on this auction site.

I am the managing director of the world famous BEANOS RECORDS and we have had our shops in South London for over 30 years. I write about rare records, appear on TV and Radio and constantly in the National Press. It is BEANOS LIMITED that are selling this most desirable item but I want to be your contact for any queries and, also, to take away the faceless negotiation that an important international auction can sometimes have. I can tell you everything you need to know about this auction lot if you email me with any questions and, you are welcome to visit our shop and view the actual item (by prior appointment) with myself. I have to point out that most of the goods I offer on eBay are also on sale in my shop and I might have to end an auction early if I have another buyer.
