Item Description
The Roulettes “Stakes And Chips” original 1st press LP on Parlophone PMC 1257, in super condition from 1965. The real deal! The matrix numbers are 1-G on both sides. Pressed on very heavy vinyl, this LP still belongs to the original owner, who tells me he played it once only!! ONE PLAY!!! How good is this? The sleeve is printed by Garrod & Lofthouse Ltd. And the lined inner sleeve is in really good condition, too! OK, here we go; In detail, the vinyl looks brand new, has no scratches or marks at all, except a very light paper scuff at the start of side one, which does not make a noise. There is not even a finger mark I can detect even under strong light. Not even the lightest of marks spoil this LP visually. This one paper scuff may have always been there. The labels look new too, with a nice new sheen, with no wear or fading, or signs of age. There is one small spindle trace on the side one label, and hardly any trace at all on the other label. It looks as though the owner’s memory is correct, and it was played only once! It looks just pressed! I checked it briefly (with a brand-new cartridge and stylus just installed for the occasion – the original emitex inner sleeve does warn of the dangers of having a worn stylus!) and it is pure, perfectly clean and has no groove wear or distortion at all!! There is some static or dust, producing the odd little click, but bear in mind this LP has been sitting un-played for over 40 years (waiting for you, perhaps?) and could use a light clean. Even so, it still sounds brand new! Musically, of course, one wonders why this record didn’t sell in huge numbers, as it is quite brilliant! Perhaps great beat music with harmony vocals was becoming passé? Hard to believe! One thinks of Hollies, Beatles, etc. and this is way up there! No other stories about the vinyl – it really is just fab! No other marks at all! The record grades a conservative EX+ because of the odd very light dust click !! It really does look and sound just about new! The inner sleeve is really nice, with the “emitex” blurb, and is a little faded, and has signs of age, but is EX. The main cover is superb, and the photos try to show any small signs of age that may be present. It has been in a protective sleeve for decades, and has been looked after really well. The laminated front has almost no wear at all, looks really new, and has only a few very tiny light handling creases, and no fading, and is perfectly flat! There is a miniscule amount of corner wear along the bottom opening edge (about 1/8” along the bottom - no wear through the card), but you can hardly see it from the front, and the cover has not been bent at all or damaged in any way whatsoever. I point it out only as this is a really collectible and valuable LP and you may want to know the most trivial defects before bidding! The spine is perfect and clean, and the back cover is almost as new. There are a couple of hardly noticeable light handling creases at the spine (in the flip back laminated area), but they don’t line up with anything on the front cover, so the spine has never been bent or rolled, that’s why the cover is so flat. These light creases may have even been there from day one. The un-laminated back has no finger marks, nor hardly any fading or discolouration!! Amazing!! You could have bought this LP yesterday! There is a little grubbiness or sign of age along the bottom edge of the flip back laminated border, this is where the lamination runs out and does not go right to the edge of the flip back. Another thing that you will never see on the photos is that some of the laminate in a couple of tiny areas on the flip back bottom border on the back cover has peeled off. In fact, this small bit of missing laminate (or "clarifoil") is stuck to the inside of the clear protective sleeve that the LP has always been stored in, and will be supplied with it - ouch! This peel-off is tiny (under one inch by under a quarter of an inch) and really un-noticeable as it is on the plain white area where it is glued together, and does not really spoil the cover, but I’m pointing it out as you will need to know! The cover looks almost new at first glance, and this tiny bit of lifted laminate is on the white bottom rear border anyway so it doesn’t spoil anything visually. Overall, a top collectible copy of this really hard-to-find LP! The LP must grade overall much better than EX, but please read carefully, as I think I’ve described it better than any shorthand RC grade. You will find it hard to locate a better copy of this beat rarity at any price. It really is close to perfection! Played once!!! ONCE!!! How rare is this ??? Please ask any questions before bidding. If you are near Gateshead, you can come and see it!! Forget re-issues! You need this LP in glorious heavy vinyl MONO to appreciate it at its fullest! EMI’s mastering engineers knew what they were doing, and there is no substitute for this sound! A real classic! Good luck. You're worth it! PLEASE READ; I am selling a one-owner record collection over the next few weeks. Check my feedback to see what’s gone before. Buyers regularly state that their LPs are even BETTER than described! Most LPs look close to MINT, and all have been fastidiously well looked after from new in protective sleeves, including the copies from the 1960’s. All have been carefully played, of course, so an EX+ is about as good an honest grade as you will see. Even with no marks, if it is played it cannot accurately be described as MINT! That is an absolute “still in the shop” condition to me. But trust me that All are high grade with any defects noted, no matter how trivial. ALL LPs I’m listing are worth collecting, there’s no boot sale rubbish here! There are some real classics. Ask any & all questions BEFORE BIDDING. Zero or negative bidders please contact before bidding, or bid will be removed. All funds must clear before shipping. Postage & packing is at as near cost as possible to estimate, I pay any overcharge, I refund any difference. Insurance may be needed (at cost) depending on the post service used. If no insurance is taken, I cannot be held responsible for damage that may occur. I use professional heavy mailer envelopes, with card stiffeners. This is included in the shipping costs. The records are usually removed from the outer sleeve for shipping. Shipping & packing is at cost, and for a single album is £2.95 first class, and £5.25 special delivery inc. insurance within the UK. The international shipping cost below is an illustration only and usually is much cheaper! For multiple purchases I cost them on the actual shipping to save you as much as possible. This can take a while so please be patient and ask questions early! I am sometimes away from the computer for a day or so, please leave plenty of time for answers. Please email for any other quotes if you are unsure, or if you have any other questions, BEFORE bidding! You can have any postal service you want, please bear in mind that costs are based upon size, weight, destination and insurance value (if required). I cannot be responsible for the time it takes, although I generally post items same or next day where possible. Larger items can need specialist materials. After that, it depends upon the service you requested. I do not make a profit from shipping, and the packing costs are partly included. Any extra is paid by me, and that goes for all costs. If you overpay shipping costs for any reason, I refund the difference by Paypal after real costs are determined. OK? Please ask if unsure!
