The band themselves were displeased with this record, feeling that the production did not capture their on-stage energy and excitement. Yet to most ears, this debut sounds pretty great, featuring some of their most melodic and accomplished songwriting and harmonies, delivered with a hard-rocking punch. For What It s Worth was the hit single, but there are several other equally stunning treasures. Stephen Stills Go and Say Goodbye was a pioneering country-rock fusion his Sit Down I Think I Love You was the band at their poppiest and most early Beatlesque and his Everybody s Wrong and Pay the Price were tough rockers. Although Neil Young has only two lead vocals on the record Richie Furay sang three other Young compositions , he s already a songwriter of great talent and enigmatic lyricism, particularly on Nowadays Clancy Can t Even Sing, Out of My Mind, and Flying on the Ground Is Wrong. The entire album bursts with thrilling guitar and vocal interplay, with a bright exuberance that would tone down considerably by their second record.

a WE GRADE THE VINYL AS STRONG VERY GOOD . CAUTION: The vinyl is NOT MINT or NEAR MINT, but is nevertheless in a very nice and clean condition. There are some surface marks and abrasions, mostly light and superficial, although some may be longer than 1.1/4 inches 1 inch 2.5 centimeters
b The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording
c Withdawn Baby don t scold me pressing of this title is much rarer, and by far more preferable to its regular, stock counterpart. We estimate that withdrawn copies of this album outnumber regular later copies by a ratio of at least 100:1.
d IN ADDITION, stereo pressing of this title first version is much rarer, and by far more preferable to its mono counterpart. The mix is more graphic, the sound resolution more precise, and the channel separation which does not exist on mono version adds a whole new dimension to the music. Also, the stereo mixes are by definition somewhat different than on the mono version. We estimate that mono copies of this album outnumber stereo copies by a ratio of at least 20:1 this ratio refers to the ratio of withdrawn stereo copies vs. withdrawn mono copies, NOT regular stereo copies vs. regular mono copies
e The record comes in a hi-grade PVC inner sleeve, which has - apparently with success - shielded the record from the harmful impact of elements over many years
f Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording
THE COVER
THE COVER IS ABOUT VERY GOOD- VG-
The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:
- Cover has a partially split top seam between 8 and 10 inches / 20 to 22 centimeters This split seam was delicately taped by the previous owner with a piece of transparent scotch tape
- Cover has a partially split bottom seam between 4 and 6 inches / 10 to 15 centimeters This split seam was delicately taped by the previous owner with a piece of transparent scotch tape
- Cover has some visible ring wear On the scale from 1 to 10 1 being the least, and 10 being the most severe , we assess the severity of ring wear as 3 front side and 6 back side .
- Cover shows some yellowing on back side, apparently from aging.
- Cover has some fraying/wear along the top and bottom seams
- Visible shelf wear noted on the spine
- Cover has all four corners slightly worn / dinged
- Back cover has circular tarnish grayish, dust-covered sections, which closely follow the contour of the record , probably caused by friction or by rubbing against other covers during the storage. The tarnish is similar in appearance to a common ring wear, but, UNLIKE ring wear, these grayish areas may be possible to clean up with a minor effort and with a right cleansing solution.
- Cover has a few tiny wrinkles along the spine
- Cover has a slight warp in one bottom corner this will have absolutely no effect on the record.
- Cover has a visible wrinkle crease in one of the corners.
- The cover has a few scratch marks on the back panel
- Cover has a visible wrinkle air bubble in paper slick on the back panel
