Item Description

Please, allow me to introduce myself : I’ve not only been a dedicated follower of collecting but a co-owner of second hand record shops, an A&R executive at record companies, a chief editor in music magazines, a radio dj, etc for the last 35 years in Greece! So, a hell of a lot of rare and collectable items such as out-of-print original records, first pressings, special editions, promo samples, white labels, test pressings, magazines, posters, catalogues, memorabilia and other fetish objects of desire in 5, 7, 10 and 12 inches not only from Greece but from all over the world are going to be exhibited through these pages … Turn on and stay tuned!
So, up for auction is the Ultra Rare original Greek vinyl pressing of the Girls’ one and only 45 rpm 7-inch single that was released in 1966 with the white, black, red and green Music - Box label, Cat No MB 638 and Matrix Nos 7MBG 960 [A side] and 7MBG 961 [B side, both machine - stamped]. Housed in an original yellow, red, black and white Music - Box company sleeve, it featured the following songs:
A side Rocket For Girls 3:58
B side Hello, Beethoven 2:00
The Girls were the only, of the very few anyway, all - girl groups that succeeded to record, even one and only single, in Greece during the 60s. From the capital city of Athens, its four members Bessie Exarchou [guitar], Ephi Pania [organ], Marie Anne Kalapotharakou [bass, vocals] and sister Julie Kalapotharakou [drums, vocals] had an average age of 16 years old [!!!] and vanished from the scene due to … parental advisory - those were the days in Greece…
Made known to the garage fans worldwide due to their inclusion in the classic compilation of the genre Girls In The Garage Vol. 5 [1985, Romulan Records], their two tracks “Rocket For Girls" and "Hello, Beethoven” have been firmly compiled in many Greek compilations too, like Oldies But Goodies No 7 [1982, Pan - Vox] and Greek Garage Bands Of 60’s [1991, Music Box International]!
