Item Description

In open shrink wrap, very hard to find Ohio singer songwriter 1960 s recording. LP has a few scuffs, but vg overall.

Description from Acid Archives:

Here s a private pressing of folk and folk-rock gently laced with early influences of psychedelia. For a 17 year-old high school kid, David Budin was already a skilled singer-songwriter and accomplished musician. His guitar playing is imaginative and stylistically diverse, and with band backing of drums, bass, flute piano, this stands out as a special record for the era. All 13 tracks are originals except an impressive Beatles cover. A sort of evolutionary morphing of old and new seems to be the impetus behind Budin s songwriting. A few songs reflect mid- 60s coffeehouse folk, except with an electric guitar, and lyrics about promising hippie love instead of bitter activist subjects. Alongside Budin s guitar arrangements, a flute has most of the lead instrumental parts, in a style between late 50s beatnik poetry night and a quaint jazz club and happy hippy flute sounds from the long-haired dude in period minstrel garb at a public park gathering. One of the stronger loner songs from the album is the vagabond tune, A Whispered Echo , with just Budin singing a weary song that comes across as a string of coherent thoughts while playing acoustic guitar with a constant rhythmic finger noodling technique. Another memorable song, Beauty Isn t Always Seen , consist of rhythm acoustic guitar, lead hipster flute and hallucinatory lyrics about real versus superficial beauty. The record came about to promote the grand opening of the Red Lyon, a coffeehouse in upstate New York. Budin later moved to the eastcoast and joined Gift, and influential NJ band that became Springsteen s E Street Band. SLB
