Reproduced by the international sculptor Nicholas Boxall, signed and numbered, the life mask is ready to wall mount. Made from toughened plaster, amazingly detailed with every wrinkle and pore evident. Originally used as a makeup tester for the 1983 film The Hunger this life size cast has been reproduced in a limited run of 300 worldwide.
This was chosen specifically to be displayed at the VA which makes it unique and the one to own, unlike the other Bowie Life Masks on the market which are mass produced and of lesser quality.
Also included in the sale is a new and sealed hardback first edition David Bowie IS VA book to coincide with the exhibition.
The book traces his career from its beginnings in London, through the breakthroughs of Space Oddity and Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars, and on to his impact on the larger international tradition of twentieth-century avant-garde art. Essays by VA curators on Bowie s London, image and influence on the fashion world are complemented by Christopher Frayling on film Howard Goodall on musicology Camille Paglia on gender and decadence and Jon Savage on Bowie s relationship with William Burroughs and his fans.
The Cut Edition masks sold out quickly and are not available from Nicholas Boxall or the VA shop anymore. The only other outlet for the CUT edition is St Pauls Gallery for 1300.
