Item Description

Up for auction is this original Mono version released in 1964 entitled The Beatles and Frank Ifield...This is one of the most highly sought after Beatles LPs ever in its original format...This is known throughout the collector world as "The Portrait Cover" and is nearly Impossible to find as there were only a few hundred ever pressed in Stereo/Mono...Vee-Jay changed the cover because it wasn't selling...They decided to switch from the "Old Man" cover to a sketched copy of the Fab Four with hopes of increasing sales...There were very few of these Stereo or Mono copies ever issued to the public as a result of a lawsuit between Capitol records and Vee-Jay records which actually prohibited Vee-Jay from releasing any more Beatles songs because it was made official in court that they lost the rights to publish these songs of which they had owned 16 at the time and eventually lost out to Capitol....Three "Portrait Cover" sealed stereo copies showed up in a Midwest record store and one of these was resold in the 90s for a whopping $28,000 to a private collector...Which should shed some light on the rarity of this record...This is the mono example of that "Portrait Cover" with the rainbow colorband Bracketed Vee-Jay label....The catalog Num on this copy is VJLP 1085...The deadwax nums are etched 64-3842 on both sides w/ MR circle logo stamped also on both sides which would denote a Monarch pressing...A triangle 6295 is also etched into the deadwax on both sides along with URJ....I've play tested this copy and it sounds fantastic...very little background noise or pops...I would grade the actual LP at Ex-The inner sleeve advertises other Vee-Jay titles for sale....the sleeve has a tear on one of its sides..There are some paper marks on side one and two in the deadwax..2 to 3 hairline scratches and very light scuffing...Overall an excellent copy maintains its orig natural luster...The cover is a very thick cardboard blue with the catalog number on the lower right and the full text on the spine which indicates an original not a fake...The cover I would grade VG- evident ringwear and top and bottom wear on the edges...There is also a 1/4" punch hole in the upper left hand side of the cover and some writing on the upper right side...Awesome copy!!! Please bid with confidence..This is a very very rare copy in its original form and is impossible to find anywhere....Happy bidding!!!
