Item Description

Led Zep afficionados will need no introduction to this rare piece but for the uninitiated the story goes that only the first 2000 pressed came with the turquoise title and Atlantic logo on the front cover and with the album barely a week old, the band decided that this colour didn t have the required punch associated with a rock band so all subsequent pressings came with the now familiar orange titles. In addition to the cover, the Copyright credits on early labels which were plum and orange as opposed to the later green and orange erroneously listed group compositions as Superhype Music instead of Warner Music Ltd which was substituted on all subsequent pressings.
Also a very small amount of these first 2000 copies showed another print error on the side one label again concerning the Copyright credits.
Tracks 1, 2 and 4 are credited to Superhype Music and track 3 to Jewel Music this being the copyright agent of Willy Dixon who composed the track .
As said, a few copies were mis-printed and had the number 3 printed twice to read 1, 3 and 4 Superhype Music and 3 Jewel Music .
The number 2 was omitted altogether. This piece of vinyl include ALL of these errors.
This rarity cannot be understated.
Of the half dozen or so copies of this LP sold on ebay in the last few months, none have had this final feature. The cover is in really good shape for a sleeve that is 45 years old.
It has minimal creasing and just a little laminate lift on the rear by the spine but this is all intact.
It has the grey strip across the bottom of the front sleeve which, again was unique to this cover and the opening edges are good and strong with no fraying or tears.
The spine is also solid with perfectly legible title and catalogue number. The vinyl has matrix numbers A//1 and B//1 with no crossings out of any of the numbers which was the case on later copies. The vinyl has been played and there are surface marks but nothing that stops uninterrupted playback.
Crackles are discernible on quieter passages which again is to be expected on a piece of 45 year old vinyl.
Like all vinyl from this period, the LP would benefit from a professional clean. It is still inside the original poly lined inner sleeve.
