It's the 50th anniversary of the album with which The Moody Blues fused psychedelia, symphonic music (courtesy of the London Festival Orchestra), rock power and pop hooks, scoring an international smash and establishing their career in the process. Their classic hits "Tuesday Afternoon" and "Nights in White Satin" were born right here on one of the most ambitious and successful pop albums of it's time. Perhaps fans have heard the rumblings: one particularly exciting thing about this anniversary reissue is the newly restored 1967 original stereo mix, which hasn't been heard since '72 due to a damaged master tape. You can hear that on 180-gram vinyl, or in the deluxe edition, which also includes bonus 1967 studio recordings ("Long Summer Days," "Please Think About It"), BBC radio sessions ("Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood," "Nights in White Satin," "Twilight Time," "Fly Me High" and more), alternate mixes of "Tuesday Afternoon" and "Dawn Is a Feeling," "The Sun Set" (alternate version without orchestra), the B-sides "I Really Haven't Got the Time," "Cities" and more. A DVD with previously unreleased 1968 footage of the band performing three songs at MIDEM (then just in it's second year) plus the album's 1967 mix in 24-bit stereo and a 5.1 surround mix derived from the 1972 Quad mix round out this definitive return to "Days of Future Passed"! Polydor.

    Exquisite remaster

    This review refers to the 50th anniversary 2 CD + 1 DVD remaster. I thought I knew this album. Boy, was I wrong! I was aware of the 1972 remix, and even had "Nights in White Satin" in the original 1967 mix from a copy of Time-Life's "Sounds of the Seventies" 1972 volume. This remaster of the original mix blows that away! The percussion is amazing. During softer passages, I could hear the snares rustling against the bottom head of the snare drum. In several cases, I can now make out not only the resonant sound of a drum or cymbal, but also of the stick impact. The transients are so much clearer, and the overall sound is warm without being muddy. A true achievement! The rest of the package is well assembled, too, but the debut digital release of the 1967 mix is worth the price of admission, ...

    Sacd is average effect not amazing like some

    Picked up the sacd version for my sacd player i recently purchased. Each sacd is different in effects due to who mastered or remasterd them. This particular one is average as it is a remaster of quad deca sound used only a few years in 60s and 70s. Probably better just picking up a non sacd cd.

    Clarity restored

    I’ve always enjoyed this record and had the regular cd. I played it the other day and it really sounded flat.. so I saw this as having the original 67 mix and in sacd 24/96. Once it arrived I put it on and it came back to life. Nice to hear the cymbals and bells ring out.. peak hour really sounds good with great bottom end. I recommend this version if you are considering it.

    This is a awesome set of music history of "Days of Future Passed". I enjoyed listening to 24bit 96Khz versions on the DVD. Love the old footage! Must have for the love of the music!
