HAWAII BEST EVER
This was a tough one to find on Ebay to review and I have been wanting to do one for a long time. A limited Digipak Japanese release that by now, is probably very difficult to obtain but still worth the search. Connie went to Honolulu in 1968 utilizing authentic Hawaiian musicians and background singers for one of the finest cultural recordings ever put to vinyl and then transferred to CD in glorious Japanese sound. Connie who is known as a "belter", uses her mid range to soft high vocals--a feat that is extremely difficult to do consistently for an entire disc--and she does it flawlessly. Her interpretations of "Forevermore" (the standout cut). "Lahaina Luna", "I'll Remember You" are masterpieces of interpretation. Her version of "Blue Hawaii" ranks high and I personally forgot Elvis' hit ... This was a tough one to find on Ebay to review and I have been wanting to do one for a long time. The worldwide release in 1968 was sent back to NY and remixed up to six time to give it a more commercial pop feel, therefore destroying it's ethnic purity. Although it was very listenable, it palls after hearing the original recordings herein. Unfortunately, MGM did not see fit to mass promote this masterpiece and it was forgotten for many years except to her loyal fan base. Frank, Bing, Ella and others have nothing on Connie after you listen to this beautifully realized concept disc. A VERY must have for all fans and serious music collectors. Connie's finest hour (or 40 minutes depending on if you count the length of the disc). Don't miss out on this one! You'll be sorry.

Amazing Lead vocal by Connie Francis. One of her best recordings. Sound quality is very good considering its from 1968.
